What a Great Example of an Art Deco Diana Lamp!

Lamps, clocks and bakelite radios of the art deco era are my real weak spot when it comes to collecting. Not surprisingly then, my heart missed a beat when I came across this piece. Apparently this is circa 1935 and really is in great condition.

This lamp is currently listed on eBay. For something this rare make sure you have a bid, it will only increase in value due to it's condition and rarity, a nice investment piece.

Personally I love these. I came across this one at an auction recently and just had to get it due to it's unusual colour, plus I have not seen a lot of these branded "Hotpoint". Works perfectly and really is in nice condition.

It's live on eBay now, so don't miss out!

If anyone knows of a good website that concentrates on Australian bakelite radios let me know, like I said, I love these things!

Art Deco Furniture Pieces

Well, it's back to the future! I have not really dealt in any furniture items recently as I have been more into collectables and the like. However I came across these two pieces and just couldn't resist, largely because of their condition and uniqueness.

These have just gone live on eBay, so if you're into these sorts of items, check them out now as they are both being auctioned at a low starting price.

Update On Vintage Photos

Hello again............

Happy to say I have an update on the vintage photographs I mentioned in an earlier post.

Three samples below are Goulburn Gaol, Street Corner and Working On A Tunnel.

These photographs are from the State Archive and there are a total of 115 of them. The subjects vary greatly and there are some real treats coming up, including criminal records with a picture of the criminal, his sentence and more. Fantastic discoveries.

The first seven of these pictures are going to auction on the evening of Saturday 7th November so check them out and see what great photos they are.

About Shawnee Pottery

Due to the large amount of migration and commercial trade between the United Kingdom and Australia, we tend to see an abundant amount of Art Deco period pottery and china from the UK in Australia. Far rarer are items of American pottery, specifically Shawnee and Red Wing pieces. It is particularly rare to find pieces in fine condition.

Even within the USA pieces from Shawnee and Red Wing are now much sought after, collectable and rare. To find pieces in the condition of these in Australia is very rare indeed.

Shawnee Pottery was started in Zanesville, Ohio, in 1937. The company made vases, novelty ware, flowerpots, planters, lamps, and cookie jars. Shawnee produced pottery for George Rumrill during the late 1930s. The company closed in 1961.

Companies such as McCrory, S. S. Kresge and Sears Roebuck and Company all became customers/outlets for Shawnee Pottery, helping the fledgling company become established.

Although everything "Shawnee" is collectable, cookie jars and planters are especially popular.

Today, it appears the sky's the limit when it comes to the rarer gold trimmed, decorated jars. In 2002 a Smiley Pig sold for $6750.00 at the Kent Mickelson Auction House in Missouri.

Vintage Photos Coming Soon

I recently obtained two boxes of vintage photos from the records of the NSW State Archive. There are a wide variety of photographs including early shots of Sydney with buildings in different stages of development, indigenous Australians in the outback and some early ship related photos.

Stay tuned, as soon as I can either scan or photograph these they will be up for auction.

New Stuff On Ebay

Okay, tonight I will have around 50 new listings becoming active and live on Ebay. A large proportion of these are highly collectable but brand new wind-up robot style reproductions of the old "tin toys" era. These are not actually considered toys as they do not pass Australian Safety Standards so they must NOT be given to children, but rather used as collectors models. They are however all fully functional.

I'm looking forward to see what the response is to these items as they really are awesome and quite hard to come across.
